Plant Care

Plant Care Guide

Plug plants are supplied in biodegradable coir compost pots. These are ideal for young seedlings. When ready the plug plants can be potted on into either large pots or directly in the ground in a greenhouse or tunnel. There is no need to try and remove the plugs from the coir pots as the roots grow through them and eventually the pots will bio-degrade in the soil.

Larger potted plants are either supplied in 7cm or 9cm pots. These can be potted on into larger pots we suggest a minimum of 2 litre size or directly into the greenhouse bed or polytunnel.

General care. Some hardy varieties such as Jalapeno, Apaches and sweet peppers can be grown outside. However the hotter varieties will only thrive if kept as a potted house plant or in a greenhouse or polytunnel. Most varieties will bear fruit in late summer/early autumn and can continue fruiting until November. Chilli fruits may start yellow/purple/green but almost all mature to red when they are at their hottest. The majority of varieties are perennials therefore if you can provide a nice warm place over winter, you will have a good plant which will last a number of years.

Your plants will require feeding to obtain the best crop of fruits. We use an organic seaweed feed and our own home made nettle feed.
